It’s not just your favourite superheroes who have special powers – plants pack quite a punch too. Their mission? To survive and thrive!
In this virtual session, students will work with a Gardens educator to examine a range of plants from contrasting environments, learning all about the amazing adaptations – or ‘superpowers’ - that enable them to grow and survive. From arid deserts to temperate rainforests, students will fine tune their scientific skills as they learn to identify the weird and wonderful adaptations that helps plants thrive in these challenging environments. At the end of the session, students can follow along with a live demonstration, completing a scientific illustration of a plant specimen found in their home, backyard or school.
Learning Activities
- Students will investigate how physical conditions affect the survival of plants
- Compare the structural and behavioural adaptations between plants in rainforest and arid environments
- Perform a scientific investigation by completing an illustration of a plant specimen
