Sydney gets spooky this Halloween

Vampires, witches and zombies – oh my! Halloween is right around the corner and Sydney is gearing up for lollies and frightfully fun activities to celebrate. From the inner city to south west Sydney, the Gardens’ have the top Halloween events for kids.

Garden Monsters

This year for the first time the Garden Monsters trail curves through some wild and spooky locations at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, and Family Day at The Calyx gets a carnivorous twist especially for Halloween!

Kids can take part in the Garden Monsters trail by following the map to visit five tricky stations including the haunted forest, eyeball and spoon race, and a carnivorous plants inflatable obstacle course – just don’t drop into the toxic plant juice pit or you could become the treat! Kids that survive the final dash to safety will be rewarded with their own treat.

Family Day at The Calyx

Families can finish their Halloween adventures at the new Plants with Bite carnivorous plants display, with the first Family Day at The Calyx debuting just in time for Halloween. Family Day at The Calyx is a brand-new day on the last Sunday of each month with a mix of free and paid activities inspired by fun, science, and creativity.
Alongside activities like pumpkin carving and face painting, for extra creepy crawly fun families can book in for Feeding Time at Plants with Bite, a chance to learn about, observe, and feed your very own Venus fly trap.

Garden Monsters and Feeding Time at Plants with Bite require booking online. Family Day at The Calyx is open to everyone and entry is free.

Halloween PlantBank Party

On Sunday 28 October the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is out to prove that science can be stranger and spookier than fiction, at the very first and totally free Halloween PlantBank Party.

Kids will have the chance to become a scientist for the day and discover the amazing superpowers that nature has and how gross and gory it can really be on a tricky activity trail.
Our real-life scientists will have fantastic activity stations to learn about pumpkin planting, rainforest fruit and seed conservation, and even learning about animals from scats (the scientific word for poop!) from the woodlands.
For those fans of creepy crawlies, frogs and tadpoles and even colourful peacock spiders will be on display. Kids can also face the scariest thing of all - their own reflection after freaky facepainting!
The Witches’ Kitchen will serve up dramatic fun thanks to the Eaton Gorge Theatre, and frightfully delicious food and coffee will be available for purchase.
With prizes for best dressed be sure to wear your spookiest outfit and don’t forget to pack your wits!
